Hey guys!

I currently have a premade Acer computer (-.-, thank my dad for that lol) but i'm going to be upgrading my PSU & GPU very soon. I currently have some cheap chinese (typical Acer) 250W PSU, and a Nvidia G210. I'm going to get a Corsair CX500 & a XFX 5770HD Single Slot. However, at first I was unsure whether a 5770 would fit or not as its relatively bigger than a G210. I've done my measurements and it'll barely squeeze in which is good to know. However, I'm unsure whether the 'slots' at the back of my PC are big enough. According to my measuring, they aren't lol even though i've been told it's just bad measuring on my behalf.

Could I get confirmation that the slot at the back of the PC is big enough? Because aren't they all supposed to be a standard size? Here are some pictures which will help show what I mean lol, I have some weird 'door' flappy thing at the back of my PC too which is ghey.

When i've put out the tape measure, it's to show how big the 5770 is in relation to the current G210 in there.

Any ideas?

This is the gpu im getting: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-xfx-hd-5770-pci-e-21-%28x16%29-4800mhz-gddr5-gpu-850mhz-800-cores-2x-dvi-mini-dp-single-slot

It should just peek through the slot like every other card, I only get problems with my card being too big and it stops a PCI slot from being used :P

Gb  DazzyJ Same here, doesnt matter though i have nothing else to put in and i have one spare anyway.

I'd recommend saving up more money and just buy a completely new PC, glhf eco range would be good if you're on a budget and then you can add the new card if it needs it later. Or you can do what sparky did and get a quote for a custom PC

Gb  DazzyJ So do you reckon theyre all a standard size? >.<

Gb  MentaLLL Why should I save up more money, and buy the glhf eco PC when my current PC is better than it in every single way, other than the PSU & GPU? Q_Q

There are 2 kinds of GPU. AGP & PCI Express. AGP is only for old computers with old motherboards. In PCI Express are more 2 derivations. PCI Express 2.0 & PCI Express 2.1 . PCI Ex. 2.1 are the kind used in the most modern GPU cards.

And 2.0 the most used.

You just need to see if your motherboard is compatible withPCI-E 2.1 . To run this kind of PCI you need a good PSU ( Corsair CX500 - Its great ) .

Do you now what's your motherboard?

Pt  sten Yes, my mobo is a Acer G43T-AM

Here are links to the same mobo, non acer versions:

The G210 currently in my PC is PCI-E and so is the 5770, that isn't the issue.

The problem is that according to my measurements (which could be wrong) I think my slots at the back of the PC are too small lol, so I need somebody to tell me if its a standard size and i'll be fine trying to slot the 5770 in... or if my slots are actually smaller than usual.

Gb  MentaLLL I have a network card in one of mine, as the the onboard one doesn't work.

Pt  sten Think he is on about the metal bit with the output connectors, not the actual mobo connector type.

Lb  KYANITE The two that i've had have been different sizes and i had to bend the old one to make it fit properly.

Gb  DazzyJ So assuming the 5770 ends up being slightly too big, what would the best solution be? Other than a new bloody case ofc -.-

Pt  sten Mate you still don't get it

What you can see from the first picture

[simg]http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/4317/sany0026n.jpg[/simg]

is the slot where the graphic card peaks out once it's been inserted into the PCI slot.

Now, I'm worried that the metal bit which has the DVI and VGA connections, is too wide for the actual hole I have at the back of my case... therefore i'm asking if it's just me doing measurements wrong and if theyre all a standard size/width...
