So after realizing how **** my on board sound is compared to my external usb sound card is i'm after an internal card, not sure how much sound cards tend to be worth, but i have 100 or so to spend on it, suggestions on what to get would be fantastic!

Been looking for this too, tried three headsets on my onboard, the carcharias, diablo 3 and the pc360 they dont make a difference.

Maybe you can find: Creative Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeGamer loads of people have it that i know and they hear way more footsteps than i do.

Or i'm just getting deaf

To be honest there is not a single good card out there on the marked, the output effect it to low to get the maximum out of high end headsets (not counting usb ones ofc), and the price is just way to high on the top models.

So my advice is to get a propper amplifier and just get the signal out from the computer and use the internal DAC in the amplifier to get the best quality.

So buy a small headset amp, it comes cheaper then the most high end sound cards, and the quality is 100 times better and you have anough effect to drive multiple high end headsets.

The Argon HA1 is a small, yet brilliant little amp.
or if your not planing to lan with it, you could just get a used normal stereo amp and use that, then you could hook up a coupple of nice floor speakers aswell for non gaming use.

cheers for a advice, but i'm looking for a card so i can fiddle with settings, unless this amp comes with drivers?

And RunZ, creative cards are horrible, the driver support is poor and the sound quality is not nice at all, the so called enchantments just ruins the sound source making it sound fake and wierd.
ive had my fair share of creative cards and im never going to get another one, if you absolutly need a internal card Asus is a way better choise.

But again, using the normal inegrated sound card to transfer the signal digital into an amp, and use the amps internal DAC is a way better option, both price wise and when it comes to Sound quality.
Im not talking about ingame footsteps here, but sound quality in general, if you want lower bass to hear footsteps better or whatever you can use any EQ on the itegrated card, but i find that its better just to run the signal standar without mixing it up in an EQ

Why do you want to fiddle with settings?
there is no reason to do it imo, and you can use your internal card settings to set the EQ, then just run it true the amp. All this Enchantments, 3d sound yadayada is just some selling point bull%&/. The sound just get horribe with using them.

I have worked with music and audio for over 6 years now and the internal cards is just some pricy piece of %&// that you have no use for.
If you want good, powerfull sound you need a propper amp, there is no way around it

Or you could always use a USB dac with a line out for headphones, thats probably your best choice

so i cant change from the settings i want for music and then what i want for gaming

Ofc you can, you can just use the settings on your integrated card, or download any free EQ software, but then again i find it overated to change settings from music to game.
With a propper headset and dac/amp there is no need

cheers for the advice bud will take it into consideration, for the time being do you know of any sort of universal sound card drivers as i'd like the increase the bass?

Control Panel>Sound then select your speakers and click Properties>Enhancements
there should be something called bass boost, aswell you can use the setting button to boost certain frequenties like an normal EQ (10 band)

but you are proabably lacking in output power, so a bass boost will just make the sound distorted and strange by lowering the treable side of the eq.
