In light of how apathetic some parts of the CS:GO scene is especially in the UK, I have written an article of jibberish that will need you to look hard and deep at yourselves.

[quote]
It is a common problem and something I have touched upon over the last year, which is the fact that the UK CS Scene is not really helping itself with poor attendances to LAN events which includes insomnia47, epic.TEN & insomnia48. More importantly epic.LAN has severely struggled to attract community teams, and top teams to take it seriously. If sponsors were to look at the UK CS scene, then what would they see? Potential? Maybe, however what they would see is no money back from the scene that seems to be dragging it's heels at present.

All I have had from numerous teams over the last few months is "can you help make the UK scene much stronger?" and that is what I am trying to do, I care far too much for my own good, but when I place faith in several people to help out they seem to drop away and disappear.

Personally I play with the light on all the time because I find the screen glare makes me feel more tired if the rest of the room is dark, maybe some others are the same. Either way to be annoyed with them for not putting your needs above everyone else's doesn't seem fair.

you're one person at a whole epic lan i think that's unfair to criticize them over that

I'm always of the view that lights should be off, but there were a few issues with the venue feeling it wasn't a good idea (bare in mind this was the venue's first experience of gaming in general, they kind of didn't really understand that they should).

Even then it's a poor excuse if some teams want to hide behind that haha :P

pred - lights off is standard @ lan for as long as ive been going (i9 onwards)

cmz - what is that comment?! i dont even know what it means?

dren - spot on with lights, but we can forgive the venue being 1st time hosts even though the reasons for not turning the lights off being BS.

gump - nice article, i think you do a great deal for ukcs, i dont understand why you should feel obliged to do more or why other people would ask that of you. You put the framework in place for a community like UKT or UKCT was, which is the glue, but theres no substance.. its a vicious circle - theres little interest in the scene community-wise and there are way too many teams expecting to be amazing over night and competing with the best and thus folding every week giving no stability to the community. its a shame ED is so inactive as that was a home for UK clans and instead now other leagues have taken a front seat and they are infested by scando and german rejects who play under a different team name every week making the problem worse.

massive respect to teams like HG and perilous who run their teams properly with consistent lineups, i know how hard it is with the slim pickings of players who don't understand what a team really is.

Yeah I get your point about the scene, and that's the issue. There aern't enough people like me or MiCk (and a select few others) to drive the scene forward in a way that we can all benefit.

Maybe people are right and I should apply for this position at ESL, and try and drive it forward from an organisation which has money backing and big names to help promote UK eSports in a positive way.

I do thank you for believing in me fmdan ;)

But that's a lot of hard work, and a big risk to jump from a stable industry I work in to a potentially unstable industry.

I'm in the process of applying, just had to massively overhaul my outdated C.V and include all relevant volunteer work I have been involved with.

You gotta take risks though gump, remember in life you regret the opportunities and risks that you haven't taken more than the wrong chances/choices you may take.

Plus there is nobody in the scene more passionate to see this game with a future. I've seen you be extremely happy with successes in the game as a whole as well as personal achievements with the community you lead. I've also seen you devastated with dips in the scene and being unlucky with disputes/inactiveness with players (out of your own control) within your community. However it is someone that cares so much about the game that will be integral to its pushing it's success.

Good luck in your application bro!

I know that none of you guys will have come across me before (I'm a noob), but being new and really enjoying cs go, getting myself involved in a team that hopes to be getting on the ladder in the near future etc (Vibrant gaming). lanning really appeals to me. I mean the fun times we have just mixing, think what a good time lan will be, so I guess I just wanted to say that I want to promote the community and lanning in particular and express some confusion over the lack of support for lans. I know that money is generally tight atm (I'm a poor student myself) but surely all the more reason to favour the cheaper event. Just some thoughts from a noob who has found the community to be largely epic (pun right there) and has inspired me to get involved in the competitive scene and frankly I want it to get better and for more people to begin enjoying it as much as I am.

All the luck to you guys who are putting so much effort into the scene and thankyou for it.
