casual bump.

It'd be nice if teams of a casual nature/community nature also went to these events, as it's a better event for the community side to get together and have a social beer/chat about the scene :)

Indeed would be nice. Just think the UK scene is pretty dead nower days unfortunately :(

Compared to the rest of Europe, yes, which is where I cannot understand why.... we just seem to lack something that Europeans have?

The fact that we cannot muster more than 10 teams to an epic.LAN when CS:GO has just broken through 100k players concurrently is a disturbing fact.

Problem i believe, is that us brits for some reason cant keep a team of 5 together for any length of time without falling out with each other :p

Yeah but that is expected these days.

People still used to go to events for some fun and banter with mixes, what has changed?

Britain have been taken over by consoles. Hardly anyone has PC...

strange thing is you cant look at another game, and say UK comp scene moved to another game, as Dota 2 isn't exactly big in UK or any other titles its strange indeed

I don't like how it starts on Valentines, do the games start on the Friday or Saturday..

@VRUCE

Only game that is perhaps bigger is LoL. But with the releases of LoL and DotA2 since the days of CS Source hey days (before mid - end 2009), it has split what we had. The fact that communities also are now non existant, and surprisingly I'd actually say Matchmaking has damaged the use of making teams. There was a recent reddit post talking about UK CS:GO players, and there were quite a few in there who have been brought into matchmaking but haven't thought about attacking online leagues/going to LANs.

@DaNkUK

I too don't like it, but unfortunately epic has always fell on this weekend in February, and the fact that the venue has other events which book out dates it was the only feasible weekend to do it. My other note to add (this is my own personal opinion) is that I have always hated Valentines Day (because it is far too commercialized), but if people cannot do it all year round with their partners then perhaps they don't deserve to do it on Valentines :P I've always been of the opinion that you treat your partner all year round with various spontaneous things, you shouldn't have to do anything special on one day which is over commercialized.

However we understand that people do have lives, we are not heartless people, and some of us who staff at events have to leave partners as well to run the event. The problem we have in terms of most of our tournaments there is the consideration of the fact it is Friday - Monday event, and people don't really want to push to Monday, so the tournament start times are determined by what sign ups we have currently. This is why I do these threads because I need to know how many teams we are looking at having currently because it helps us push out a rough schedule earlier for teams. Mike & I have done a massive spreadsheet of the amount of teams we are likely to have and what our schedule can be, if people want to finish on Sunday evening to be home for work/school/university then we have to start late on Friday night to help give us enough breathing space for potential delays & issues.

I need two more teams to hit the second prize trigger, with 10 days to go I'd like to see more interest from the community to help CSGO grow in the UK.
