rolf, if you already got 200 fps why even change it... do you really think it will change anything?

i have may fps max set to 300 don't need anymore as it won't improve your game.

I find that 'capped' fps feels different to uncapped :D

Em, it actually does buddy.
The more fps you have, the less hit boxes lag, believe me, I used to play 500FPS and have perfect reg, I can see a major difference between 200 and 500.
You may think Im stupid etc. but I can see it, and know it changes the hit boxes.

But thanks everyone for the configs :)

I played a mix with fps_max 999 and I kept on getting fps drops. I researched a bit into it and it turns out having higher fps_max will make your graphics card work harder meaning it could easily overheat faster.

Imo you should stick to fps_max 100 or 300

To be honest you only need round abouts 150 fps for CS:S.
I've got fps_max 300 as well and I get around 250-300 on all maps.

Esio is right though, setting a higher fps_max just means your graphics card has to work harder, which makes it hotter, causing your fps to drop.

If you're already getting 200 fps on CS:S with good settings. 200 is plenty and there's no need for an fps config that makes your graphics on CS:S look like my ass to get more fps, which again, you don't need.

you said it yourself. Stupid

Actually harveyy has a point (kind off)..

Think of you on A bombsite dust2 , and someone pokes out short, now I'm going to take this to the extreme, you have 5 fps, meaning 5 frames per second, slow that down like 50% and you will see how in them 5fps there are gaps in movements from the guy poking out, which with more FPS it will fill them gaps... So if one of these gaps happened as such he was fully behind wall then fully out, more fps would see him earlier and smoother.,,,,,,,

Now with it being said he has a point, but anything more than 100fps isn't noticeable so it's still pretty pointless. I did say at 5fps to be extreme.

Always lock your fps to you hz monitor. Get a 120hz monitor and lock your fps @ 120.

Its been shown and recommended to if you can lock your fps to two times that of your hertz. For example, i use 100hz so i bind my FPS at 210, 210 because it sometimes dips below the locked FPS.

sick!1!!

 Gabe Newell
so you're saying because I have a 60 hertz monitor I should cap my fps at 60?

My old PC gave me 60 fps in places on d2 and I didn't like it :/

just realised ben said what i was going to say, dw, bens a noob :(

 JOHNNYLOL
no you should not cap it to 60. your screen may only refresh 60 hertz, but the game runs faster/smoother with 100 fps then 60 it's just how it works.

You should cap it to the hz of the monitor, if you do 2x the monitor refresh you still will only see 60fps due to the hz, which is why people should buy 100hz and more monitors, this is why people at lan rage because they get 60/75hz instead of the 120hz they want. More fps = smoother but it's pointless if you don't have the hz on your monitor for it.

First things first get a constant 120fps, lock it to that and buy a 120hz monitor, then your fine. If you have 60, you should be able to turn your resolution down to get 75hz then cap your fps to 75.

In regards to the set it to 76 because 75 is shown on net_graph, it's still false, set it to exactly the refresh of the monitor.

75hz feels fine if you can't afford a new monitor now, just turn your resolution down to get the 75hz.

and regards to it being smoother over 60, this is true but still pointless, you really need the monitor tbh in regards to this matter.
