After running any game on Steam and then closing it, no matter if it's CS:S which isnt really a demanding game or CS:GO, my PC runs extremely slowly, more or less lagging on the desktop you could say. Programs tend to freeze when they load up and take their time to open, chrome itself takes about 2 minutes, after about 5-10 minutes of my PC "lagging" it goes back to normal, has anyone had this problem before, if so suggestions on how to fix it would be great. Bare in mind the games don't lag whatsoever.

Games I've run with the lagg after closing;
mw2
mw3
css
csgo
l4d
l4d2

PC specs;
i5 3570k
GTX 560
4GB ram
msi mobo - i can get the exact model if needed

Any suggestions would be great!

Have you checked if your CPU/GPU fan speeds sit at in game and out of game, what temperatures they hit vice versa and check what processes are running again vice versa.

I haven't checked the fan speeds, but during game my gfx temp is 40, after closing about 30, cpu in game in 35ish, 30 out of game. I always try to run minimal processes, so i don't believe that could be the problem, my cpu usage is normal really, haven't noticed anything strange

what size HDD have you got ? I had an issue with steam being sluggish , so i partitioned my 1gb HDD and gave steam its own space. From this i gained a few more FPS on css/csgo etc.

Also check out the processes on chrome as there is an add-on that seems to leave several processes running even after you have shut Chrome down. I think its something to do with disabling the background apps but cant honestly remember.

1gb hdd?! HOW ARE YOU RUNNING WINDOWS ON A 1GB DRIVE?! haha i preusme you mean 1tb? i have a 500gb hdd, if this problem carries on and i find no fix i'll try this.

the only add on i have is ad block ;[ the problem isnt actually chrome, that was an example, it happens on spotify, opening word, it's the whole pc in general.

lol yeah 1TB , i had to uninstall steam ,create partition then reinstall (is 850 gb of games too much ? hahahaha) still at least my steam folder is now only about 190 gb

could be your ram, launching any of these games can eat upwards of 250mb but if there is an ssue with your ram and it tries to replicate this 1000x then its gonna leave no room for normal processes and your ram will then take forever to clear when the exit command is given.

check how much ram usage u have in and out of game. also if your are in say css and you alt-tab is your performance sluggish? if yes its probably your ram if no then it maybe to do with the way the game is closing try running steams debugging utility if that doesn't do anything try ccleaner

it's only after the game closes mate, fine if i alt tab!

Might be the process hanging even though it says its closed, happened to me with csgo once, i closed it and when i re-opened it i had like 20fps no matter what i did, but when i rr'd my pc i was back up to 200 odd fps

Problems really annoying me now, fairly new pc (parts upgraded that is) anymore suggestions anyone?

over 12 years ago

prolly a stupid question but i take it you have no conflicts going on such as onboard sound/graphics still enabled etc ? (i did say it was a dumb one)

over 12 years ago

i use onboard sound, no sound card, i presume onboard gfx wouldn't be working since i'm plugged into my 560ti?

always best to goto bios and have a look , should be set to auto or off iirc.
